The crowd response was ecstatic, and the arts press in Honolulu approved. As the dancers walked into the ocean, hand-in-hand into the sunset, the crowd moved in close to the water's edge, and there was a flash as the twelve dancers vanished, leaving a film of ashes on the waves.
For the final production, IONA work crews will bring fourteen tons of dry, meticulously-cleaned sand onto the main stage of the Hawai'i Theatre, for a challenging scene that demands athleticism, balance and concentration from the performers.
